Responsible Microbiome Engineering in Everyday Spaces

A feature from NC State’s Genetic Engineering and Society (GES) Center highlights how PreMiEr researchers are partnering with communities to ensure that microbiome engineering innovations serve society’s needs responsibly. Led by GES Director Jennifer Kuzma, PreMiEr’s Societal and Ethical Implications (SEI) Core has hosted interdisciplinary workshops bringing together scientists, ethicists, policymakers, and community members to examine governance questions around microbiome engineering in the built environment. GES Research Scholar Kristen Landreville leads community engagement efforts and says the goal is to make sure both excitement and caution from the public inform how the science moves forward.
