Marketing & Communications Intern

PreMiEr is looking for a current Duke student to work part-time (10 hr/wk) with the Innovation Ecosystem and Administrative teams. The collaborate with leadership of both offices to support efforts for the ERC to engage with partners from industry, government, and non-profits. The student will also have the opportunity to support the planning and execution of PreMiEr events and help manage and generate content for the center’s social media presence.

Postdoctoral Position

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Noble Laboratory at the University of North Carolina Institute of Marine Sciences in Morehead City is looking to fill a new postdoctoral position.  They are looking for someone with molecular, microbiological, and/or mycology expertise for a project that is focused on the microbiome of the built environment. Desired expertise includes culture-based microbiological methods, quantitative molecular methods, or experience with workflows for surface, water and premise plumbing samples in the built environment. Bioinformatics expertise, particularly with long-read sequencing or a background in fungal molds and yeasts would be a bonus. Candidates with molecular and microbiological expertise  in water quality, food safety, or pathogen surveillance that do not have previous experience with research in built environments or microbiome engineering are urged to apply.

The successful applicant for this position, while based in Morehead City, NC, will be a key collaborator within the NSF Enginering Research Center for Precision Microbiome Engineering (PreMiEr;  https://premier-microbiome.org/)  and will have the opportunity to travel and interact broadly with the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering, the North Carolina State University Genetic Engineering and Society Center, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Bioinformatics and Genomics department, as well as researchers on the main campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
