Scholars Leadership Council
The Scholars Leadership Council (aka. “Student Leadership Council” or SLC) is an important part of the PreMiEr ERC. The SLC is led by a chair and co-chair elected from among the graduate student, post-docs, and research staff of the partner universities and represents undergraduate students, graduate students, post-docs and research staff in providing coordination across initiatives. Leadership positions are also selected for scholar representation among the other foundations of the ERC, including Education Workforce Development (EWD, aka. education & outreach), the Innovation Ecosystem (IE), and Diversity & Culture of Inclusion (DCI). Leaders are also selected for any un-represented universities among the other offices, as well as for post-docs/research staff and undergraduates, specifically. Potential SLC activities include cross-site sharing of lab techniques, challenges, solutions, supporting orientation training of incoming students, organizing student led colloquia and networking at annual meetings, and highlighting students’ achievements. The SLC also provides feedback on ERC functioning by meeting with PreMiEr leadership, writing annual Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analyses for feedback to center leadership, and meeting with NSF Site Visit teams.
