Professor Joseph L. Graves Jr., MacKenzie Scott Professor of Biology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Director of the Center for Genome Research, Data Science Computing, and Cloud Computing (GRADS-4C), was featured in the Scientific Reports Editorial Board Interview Series. Graves has served on the editorial board of Scientific Reports, a Nature Portfolio journal and one of the top three most cited academic journals globally, since 2022. In the interview, he discussed the responsibility of rigorous peer review, the importance of ensuring manuscripts use current scientific frameworks rather than outdated racial typology, and the challenge of maintaining reproducibility standards. On AI in peer review, Graves cautioned that while AI tools can help detect plagiarism and AI-generated content, editors must remain vigilant about algorithmic bias and fabricated citations.
