Graves opens with Galileo’s 1633 trial before the Inquisition for supporting the idea that the Earth orbits the sun, then turns to the situation in Texas. He argues that no professor should be disciplined for presenting the state of the science on any subject, and that on topics such as evolution, vaccination, climate change and gender biology the science is no longer in question. Citing Michael Mann and Peter Hotez’s book “Science Under Siege,” Graves warns that well funded efforts to make universities serve political agendas threaten both higher education and democracy.
